When it comes to the depiction of animals, particularly in motion, there was nobody at Doulton Lambeth who could compare with Hannah Barlow: her sgraffito technique was unsurpassed. This beaker, dated 1878, is an early example of Hannah Barlow’s work at Lambeth.
The beaker is 14cm (5.5in) tall with a hallmarked silver rim. It has the incised monograms of Hannah Barlow, and her assistant Harriet Hibbutt. It is dated 1878 and numbered 570 by Hannah Barlow. The beaker weighs 239g.
The beaker is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing, restoration, or significant scratches.
