This lovely Doulton Lambeth jug, produced in the last decade of the 19th century shows the influences of both its antecedents and its followers. It is a delicate balance between the elaborate Victorian designs and the later Art Nouveau shapes and colours, by such eminent designers as Alphonse Mucha.
The 20.5cm (8.25in) jug has the impressed Doulton Lambeth mark with the word ‘ENGLAND’ underneath, dating the vase to the period 1892-1902. The vases is numbered 539 and is signed in monogram by Mark Marshall. The jug weighs 1542g.
The vase is in totally original condition, but has one small (3x1.5mm) blow hole in the tubelining adjacent to the top rim.
