Frank Butler found it difficult to be boring. This large 13.75in (35cm) vase with its elaborate design and simple colouring makes its presence felt immediately. Big, bold, and sensibly priced!
The vase is monogrammed by both Frank Butler, and his assistant, Bessie Newbery. It has the Royal Doulton impressed mark with crown and lion, Frank Butler’s number, 812,and a coded date of 1902. The vase weighs 2079.
The vase is in excellent condition. It had a base rim chip, which has been professionally restored, but apart from that it is in the condition in which it left the kiln. There are various very minor discontinuities in the tube lining, caused by the original firing.
