A Royal Doulton Art Deco stoneware vase by one of Doulton's finest ceramic artists - Bessie Newbery.

The shape of this vase is shown on page 218 of Desmond Eyles' 'The Doulton Lambeth Wares'. The example shown there has leaf and fruit brush-line designs on it. This one, by Bessie Newbery has cast off all conections with nature, and is purely of Art Deco shapes. The vase has the Royal Doulton Circle mark with Crown and Lion, and the incised monogram of Bessie Newbery. It it must date from before 1924, when Bessie Newbery finished at Doultons after more than 40 years.

The vase is in perfect condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration.
