DESCRIPTION.
The lamp stands 12.25' (31cm) tall to the brass plate at the top. It has a heavy duty brass base, and an incised stoneware body with an added brass plate at the top. The lamp has the monograms of Edith D Lupton and Charlotte Lamb, the Doultom Lambeth impressed mark, and the date 1880.
Edith Lupton worked for Doultons from 1875 to 1890, producing her own designs and also cooperating with other top designers such as Hannah and Florence Barlow, Eliza Simmance and Mark Marshall. In her work she used many techniques, incising decoration, adding pate-sur-pate, gilding and inlaying mosaic patterns.
CONDITION.
The lamp is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration. It has been used and is usable as an electric lamp, but it is sold as a decorative item only in view of the requirements for electrical safety.
