A 9" (22.5cm) jug that is completely different from the normal Doulton Lambeth output of its period (1884). Whereas most of the Doulton Lambeth output at the time had elaborate incised, applied, or pate-sur-pate decoration in blues and browns, this jug has simple applied decoration on a grey/green ground.

The jug has the impressed Doulton Lambeth Mark, the incised monogram of Emily M R Welch and the impressed monogram of Kate E Russell. Emily Welch worked at Doultons from about 1879 to about 1923.

The jug is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or restorations. For accuracy, we must mention that there is one line of crazing from the stylised fish decoration up to the branch above: it is almost indiscernible.
