A fine pair of 10" (25cm) blue, beaded, exuberant vases, dated 1884, by one of Doulton Lambeth's greatest lady designers - Eliza Simmance. Coloured in the traditional Doulton colours of cobalt blue and dark brown, the gilding is unusual for works by Eliza Simmance.

These Doulton Lambeth vases have the Doulton Lambeth impressed mark, the date 1884, Eliza Simmance's design number 207, and the monogram of her assistant Rosina Brown. The vases are unusual, for their use of mirror finish gilding. The vases show the full range of techniques used by Doulton designers at the time; beading, incised designs, gilding, and stippling. The vases weigh 1492g.

The vases are in excellent condition without chips, cracks, crazing, or significant scratches. One vase has been restored in the dark brown band above the upper circle of white beads. This restoration of what appears to have been physical damage, is effetively invisible.
