The firm of Doulton originated in Lambeth in the early 19th century. Until the second half of the 19th century it made no decorative domestic items. This section shows the wide variety of items that were made apart from vases, dating from the 1870s onwards. To expand their production and product range they bought Pinder Bourne & Co in 1877. This became Doulton Burslem, with a very different range of products.
