These charming little 5.5in (14cm) Royal Doulton stoneware vases look as if they are straight from the kiln, with not so much as scratch on them. This is a pair of large heavy and bold Royal Doulton Art Deco vases by Jane Hurst. They measure 10" (25cm) tall and a maximum of 4.5" (11.5cm) diameter at the base, and were probably designed as spill vases for the ends of a mantelpiece. The period during which Jane Hurst worked at Doultons is not known for certain, but Desmond Eyles in his book 'The Doulton Lambeth Wares' suggests 1879-1922. A 10in (25cm) Royal Doulton vase in Art Deco style by one of the finest craftswomen ever to work for Doultons - Jane Hurst. Jane Hurst worked with the top designers from the 1880s till the late 1920s/30s. The style of the vase relates to the work of the artist Mondriaan with rectangular patterns of differing sizes, filled in with different colours.
